There are many benefits to having a pool, especially in the summer. Not only do pools provide a great opportunity for exercise, they are perfect for parties, too. However, there are several things that you will need to do to get your pool clean, safe, and summer-ready.
Avoid Emptying the Pool
You may want to avoid emptying your pool if it is on a high-end table. If you empty your pool, then it can lift completely off the ground. Keep in mind that pools need water to stay anchored.
Clean the Pool
Before using your pool, you will need to give it a chemical cleaning. You need to clean out the basket, assemble the filtration system, and remove any plugs.
Top Off the Water
Many pools lose water during the winter, so make sure the water is at the optimal level. You should also clean the filter before you add any water to the pool. If you have a D.E. filter, you will need to break it down, clean it, and then put it back together. If you have a sand filter, it will need to backwash. This process removes the sand and returns it to its normal setting.
Have Your Water Professionally-Tested
You can take a sample of water to the swimming pool store and have it tested. Most stores do not charge for this service. The professionals can let you know if the chemicals need to be adjusted and if the water quality is good.
Do Not Use the Pool Until the Water Is Clear
You will need to clean the filter every day until the water is clear. This will most likely take about one week. You can add chlorine in increments until the pool is completely cleaned. You should be able to see the floor of the pool when the water is completely clear.
If you clean your pool and have it tested regularly, then you can enjoy it for many years.
