We’re betting that when you were little, you dreamt of owning your own pool. You may have had friends or family who owned their own pool and you would come up with any reason to go over to their house to go swimming. It was probably hard not to become envious when you were swimming in their cool, clean water. You may have vowed to yourself that you would own your own pool someday. Then one day you did!
While you were excited in the beginning to have a pool of your own, you quickly realized that you would have to clean the pool to keep it in working order. Owning a pool comes with many responsibilities and cleaning it is one of them. But did you know how often you should clean your pool? There are two types of maintenance that you will need to do when it comes to cleaning your pool.
First, skim the top of your pool with a skimmer once a week to keep the dirt from sinking to the bottom of the pool. If you happen to see a lot of dirt collecting on the surface of the water, then you will want to skim every couple of days. Clean your strainer basket at least once a week and run the pool vacuum to clean the pool floor.
To keep your walls and tiles free of any algae build-up or calcium make sure to scrub the walls weekly. Finally, make sure to check the pH level of the pool once a week. This level should always be between 7.2 and 7.8. If it isn’t, add the right amount of chemicals to balance it out.
Check the water level of the pool every month. During a hot summer, the pool water can evaporate, and the level in the pool will go down. If it does, refill as needed. You will also want to shock your pool once a month. This process involves super chlorinating the pool to restore the chlorine levels and to get rid of any bacteria that has built up. Make sure to check your pool filters manual to understand how often your filter should be cleaned. Each filter is different, as some may need to be cleaned every month while others only need to be cleaned every other month or so.
